  • Looking to take my lighting off camera!

    Current Gear:
    (1) 40D
    (1) 580EX II

    Buying this weekend:
    (2) Vivitar 285HV

    ==========

I would like to take all three off camera. After some research, I'm set on CyberSync's. The problem is that I'm completely confused on which cables I need, if any at all.

From what I gather so far, I will need:
    (1) CyberSync™ Trigger Transmitter (CST)
    (3)
CyberSync™ Battery Powered Trigger Receiver (CSRB)

I understand that the CyberSync's come with various cables already. My question is: which, if any, additional cables do I need to purchase to make the CyberSync's compatible with the 580EX II and Vivitar 285HV's.

I've read a few threads already, but the answer is still unclear to me...ops:

This one helped, but I'm still confused. It appears that the CyberSync's come withe everything I need to work with my 580EX II, but what about the 285HV's?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The CyberSync's , Vivitar 285HV and Canon 580EX II all use different connectors. The CyberSync's use a 3.5mm (1/8") miniphone connector like the Pocket Wizards. The Vivitar 285HV uses the special vivitar connector. The Canon 580EX II uses a standard "PC connector" (actually it is also compatible with screwlock PC connectors but the standard connector works fine).

So to connect the CyberSyncs to the Canon 580EX II you need a 3.5mm (1/8") miniphone to PC connector cable. This is included with the CyberSync.

To connect the CyberSync's to the Vivitar 285HV you need a 3.5mm (1/8") miniphone to vivitar connector like either of these:

Looking them up online, the CyberSyncs are only a little cheaper than the PocketWizards. Any particular reason you're not going the PW route?

Also, couldn't you get a hot-shoe adapter, mount your flash onto that, and then run a cable from the adapter to the PW or CyberSync?
