OK, that was the commercial part. How about an introduction?
And hi member of the sdphotoforum. Until recently I was a corporate executive and am now pursuing my passion. My career distracted me from photography for 15 years or so and boy have things changed. Eight months ago two events inspired me to pick up a camera once again: I drove by a Calumet store. Bricks and mortar. I couldn't believe it. I used to covet the equipment in their catalog and was astonished to see they now have a physical presence outside New York.
Then it dawned on me that with digital photography doing studio work is a heck of a lot easier, and less expensive, than the days of Polaroid proofs or waiting for prints to come back from the lab. I ran out and bought a starter strobe kit and a camera, took some lessons from a pro and then shooting models as a hobby. Examples of my photos are on www.modelmayhem.com/davekoenig. I was living in OC at the time and although I was outgrowing my living room as a studio, I wanted to rent a studio for shooting. Most were very expensive -- over $100/hour with many rules and requirements for booking. Some just didn't have enough equipment. But I found one place at $25 that was almost perfect: if only it had higher ceilings.
So I opened dk3 studios specifically to be affordable enough to appeal to amateurs and professionals alike while providing the tools for playing with, being creative, manipulating and otherwise enjoying lighting.
I would appreciate your business.
You're always welcome to stop by and check the place out. I'm usually at the studio from about noon on.
